An Object Oriented Modeling Engine of Manufacturing Systems

چکیده
Implementation of scheduling systems often fails due in part to an oversimplification of reality. Additionally, high implementation costs are derived from the lack of separation between the plant model and the scheduling algorithms. The proposed modeling engine addresses this problem by enabling the analyst to define high-level plant elements. Some of the distinctive features of the proposed engine are the capabilities for modeling features such as alternative process routes and resources; plant element attributes; raw-material selection; and resource constraints. We implemented a Java-based modeling engine which includes a cross-platform architecture with an open application programming interface (API) and a high-level declarative language. The API allows third-party applications, such as graphical modeling and scheduling software, to connect to the plant models defined in the engine.

Modeling and simulation of processing plants are widely used in industry. Construction of a mathematical model for a plant is a time-consuming and error-prone task. In light of extensive advancements in computer science (both hardware and software), computers are becoming a necessary instrument in industrial activities. Many software tools for modeling, simulation and optimization of proces...
متن کاملModeling and Evaluation of Stochastic Discrete-Event Systems with RayLang Formalism
In recent years, formal methods have been used as an important tool for performance evaluation and verification of a wide range of systems. In the view points of engineers and practitioners, however, there are still some major difficulties in using formal methods. In this paper, we introduce a new formal modeling language to fill the gaps between object-oriented programming languages (OOPLs) us...

متن کاملA knowledge-based simulation environment for hierarchical flexible manufacturing
This article presents an approach to embedding expert systems within an object oriented simulation environment. The basic idea is to create classes of expert system models that can be interfaced with other model classes. An expert system shell is developed within a knowledge-based design and simulation environment which combines artificial intelligence and systems modeling concepts. In the give...
متن کاملGenerating Business Process Models from Object Behavior Models
Object-oriented modeling is an established approach to document information systems. In an object model, a system is captured in terms of object types and associations, state machines and collaboration diagrams, among others. Process modeling on the other hand, provides a different approach whereby behavior is captured in terms of activities, flow dependencies, resources, etc. These two approac...
